Finally up and running!
January 13, 2011
I FINALLY got this main website for ninique.net working. I’ve been wanting to put something up here for ages, but it’s never really worked out. Now it finally did XD. . . the fact that I needed a website up ASAP for use in my classes probably helped kick my butt to put this online, but I’ve actually been working on this on and off for over 6 months
I’d been using Cutenews for my CART website (for my school projects and stuff) for a while, but I’ve been dissatisfied with it. I’d always wanted to switch over to WordPress, and now that is done. I had lots of fun tweaking around in the WordPress environment and making my own theme for this site. Still not done tweaking around. . . and I still have a bunch of old school work and other things to put up, but I wanted to get this thing online quickly.
Honestly, the hardest part of making this whole thing was to switch it over from my local MAMP install to my server. I had lots of help from the following lovely guides:
However, I kept on running into all sorts of stumbling blocks. First it was my FTP transfer that kept on freezing, and I never knew on which file it would freeze. I ended up just zipping everything in a Tarball and then unarchiving it on the server using SSH. It was one long single file upload, but at least it didn’t hang. Then I had issues with my database import, and I had to redo it at least three times, and then I had weird redirect issues and all kinds of stuff like that. . . it was just. . . really annoying to do. Next time I’ll probably not bother making a local version, and just work off the server in passworded dev folder or something like that.
